How to Learn a Foreign Language

Some basics: Foreign language courses are quite different from other courses so you must never drag your feet about it. Chances of succeeding in a foreign language course is dim if you prolong the process where the minimum time that you have to devote is 3 hours weekly and 15 minutes on a daily basis. While you need not put in more than 45 minutes learning the language in one session, try to accommodate all the extra time you have in your hands.

Some occasional review of all material you have learned previously is also very important to your success - for example, the vocabulary. Read the language in small bits daily especially from the text book.

Communicating: Do not be afraid of making mistakes, listen carefully to your classmates and speak up! You can have a good practice of the foreign language if you speak out loudly to yourself, to others in the same class or with your dog or cat at home.

Writing: Hone your writing skills everyday till you no longer fumble.

Ask a friend to dictate a passage of the language and then later check it for accuracy.

Medley of helps: You ought to have a goal and a good reason for studying the foreign language and develop good feelings towards it. Make sure you are fully aware of what your goals are and how to reach there. {1.f you need help get it and do not be afraid to ask questions or ask for help for fear of sounding stupid, or being embarrassed.} 1.Ask questions, get help and never feel awkward to ask for assistance. {2.Get audio tapes of the language and listen to them or make you own tapes and listened to yourself in order to perfect your pronunciation.} 2.Get some audio tape made using the language or you could also record something and then listen to them as this would make your pronunciation perfect. 3.For building your vocabulary, try using flash cards which are made of different colors denoting genders or nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. 4.If you practice studying in groups, you can make good friends with your classmates which would be eager to help you out.
