General Tips on HD Television Speakers
Despite the fact that the built in speakers of modern day televisions have improved dramatically, you cannot better a television that has it’s own independent speaker system. Not every show you watch will require this type of sound enhancement but modern films, games and music rely heavily on their complex sound tracks and this it where you will benefit. Even if you buy a really expensive TV, you won’t get the same sort of sound quality possible with the speaker systems available now. Marketers are very good at convincing us to buy HD Television sets as the next generation of home viewing pleasure but most people purchase them after they have seen them working outside of a store environment - like at their friends house for example.
Before rushing out and buying a new HD Television, you should consider carefully what you want from it, and what your budget is. Be prepared to spend 10 percent of the TV price on cabling for the speakers in case you are contemplating to buy or already have surround sound speakers. External speakers will also require a decent amplifier if you want the best from them. Though this topic demands another chapter, but this is an additional cost, which can run from several hundreds to thousands.
Several aspects govern the world of speakers and there are several types available – you are considering the ratio of 5:1 and above which are 5 speakers to one sub-woofer. The speakers consist of one centre speaker, a left and right “surround” speaker - these typically sit at the far, front corners from the seat and a left and right rear speaker. Though these have independent and separate functions, it is essential to place them strategically with the seating place in the middle. Most AV receivers / amps can be configured however to control the volume they output at to offset the speaker location accordingly.
The basic function of a sub-woofer is to give the movie sound a real-life feel so having one would improve your overall movie viewing experience. It brings sounds to life - it creates the small, but intensifying vibrations that we all know from watching movies at the cinema. Moreover the deep bass frequencies, which you hear from sub woofers, are practically from all sides as they are at the level or below human hearing levels. It is impossible to detect from which direction the sound is coming, so the sound of an earthquake feels as if it is happening all around us.
Though you are free to place the sub woofer anywhere in the room, you still have to consider the size of the room, the type of flooring it has, the furnishing fabrics and the construction of the wall to get optimum output from it. The ideal position however of the sub woofer is in the front section of the room immediately to the right or left of the primary speakers. Second hand speakers are of course less expensive. If you are looking for the best speakers in the market, then if budget permits, go for the Canton movie CD-1 (now CD-101), which not only looks chic with smart aluminum construction, fabulous sound quality and an attention grabber.
